Taxidermy

Taxidermy is by Leon L. Pray and is illustrated. The contents list names chapters on Tools and Materials, Preparing and Mounting a Bird, and Preparing and Mounting a Coyote, among others. The first chapter says the art of taxidermy has furnished subject-matter for numerous books, most of these treating the subject in exhaustive style, being written primarily for students who desire to take up the work as a profession. The text gives the present author's purpose as setting forth a series of practical methods suited to the needs of the sportsman-amateur who desires personally to preserve trophies and specimens.

A list of materials names galvanized soft steel wire, colored, enameled artificial eyes, plaster of paris and boiled linseed oil, among others. The text says Compo. No. I is practical for all-around use, made by taking one-third hot melted glue and two-thirds flour paste, thick and thoroughly cooked. The text says legs are wired as in a mammal, with wires bound firmly to bones with thread or cord, and that legs and head and neck are next filled with sawdust.
