About this book
The instructions describe toy knitters made from cylindrical wood, with a hole bored lengthwise through the centre to admit the work. The construction uses pins, staples or wire nails as posts, driven into the wood and curved outward at the top to prevent the work from slipping off. The account permits spools where knitters cannot be obtained and describes the simplest, quickest forms of web as those made on knitters with two posts.
The doll's skirt is made of flat web, with shortened first and last rows sewn together to form a placket and fullness at the back. The hammock instructions direct the maker to sew brass rings on one side and baste the oblong hammock piece on the other.
