About this book

Terry: A Tale of the Hill People is by Charles Goff Thomson, who is described on the title page as a former Lieutenant-Colonel of the U.S. Army and once Assistant Director of Prisons for the Philippine Government. An author's note credits the poem Casey, used in Chapter IX, to Arthur W. Ferguson, formerly Executive Secretary for the Philippine Government.

In one passage Terry is restless in the town of Crampville: he has handed their farm properties back to the old tenants and looked at enlarging a small pulp plant, then given the idea up, while Deane and Susan watch him with concern and Fanny bustles in and out trying to press more dinner on him. In another he stands on a chair and improvises verses about the Philippines to a laughing company until a Macabebe sergeant arrives at the door. In a third he leaves a hut and walks into the woods while Hillmen watch, and the Major waits with Ahma and a young warrior guide.
