About this book

Automated tests guide software design in Kent Beck’s account of test-driven development. Programmers begin with a failing test, write enough code to satisfy it, then remove duplication and improve the design. Two worked projects show the process in practice, alongside patterns for testing and refactoring. The method treats short feedback cycles as a way to build confidence while changing code.
