About this book

That Will Never Work: The Birth of Netflix and the Amazing Life of an Idea by Marc Randolph chronicles the remarkable journey of how Netflix evolved from a simple concept to a global streaming giant. In 1997, when brick-and-mortar video stores ruled, Marc Randolph had an idea, to leverage the internet for movie rentals. Despite skepticism, he and co-founder Reed Hastings launched Netflix.

About the author

Marc Randolph

Randolph was Netflix's first chief executive and thought of the company on a car ride to Scotts Valley with Reed Hastings, having spent years in direct mail marketing. That Will Never Work takes its title from what his wife said about the idea, and it is unusually honest about how many of the early plans failed, selling shampoo by post among them.
