About this book

The Adventures of Odysseus and The Tales of Troy is by Padraic Colum, presented by Willy Pogany. The dedication reads that it is for Hughie and Peter, this telling of the world's greatest story. Part I tells how Telemachus, son of Odysseus, was moved to go on a voyage in search of his father and heard the tale of Troy from Menelaus and Helen. Part II begins with Odysseus leaving Calypso's island and coming to the land of the Phaeacians.

In one passage Telemachus sees a stranger change into a sea-eagle and knows the visitor is the goddess Athene. Penelope comes down the stairs while the minstrel Phemius sings, and asks him to cease. In another, Hermes finds Calypso at a loom with a golden shuttle, near a cave with four fountains and a meadow of violets. A third has Eurymachus struggling to bend the bow and Antinous answering him.
