About this book
The Agrarian Crusade, by Solon J. Buck, is A Chronicle of the Farmer in Politics and Volume 45 of the Chronicles of America Series. The preface says that rapid growth accompanied by a somewhat painful readjustment has been one of the leading characteristics of the history of the United States during the last half century. The text says that in May, 1868, the establishment of a Grange at Newton, Iowa, came as the first fruits of all this correspondence and advertisement.
The text says that by the end of 1869 there were in Minnesota thirty-seven active Granges. The text says that in October, 1870, Kelley moved his headquarters to Washington. A list of demands set out in the text includes full taxation of railroad property, a national bureau of labor statistics, an interstate commerce law, and the abolition of the contract system of employing convicts.
