About this book
The Annals of Willenhall is by Frederick William Hackwood. The contents list names, among others, chapters on Willenhall's name and antiquity, the Battle of Wednesfield and the Saxon Settlement. The contents list also gives a chapter titled The Founding of Wulfruna's Church, a.d. 996.
The text says Ablow Field covered 40 acres of unenclosed ground near Graiseley Brook, and that the tumulus once occupied the site now covered by St. Paul's Church. One account is given by Dr. Wilkes, described as Willenhall's most eminent son. The Bull's head Inn, Wolverhampton Street, is supposed to be the alehouse referred to in Borrow's romantic tale of Romany life, Lavengro. The Plough Inn, Stafford Street, is described as less old than the others, and of more doubtful interest.
