About this book
The Apostles, marked as Vol. II of Origins of Christianity, is by Ernest Renan. The text says that Luke appears for the first time in the company of Paul, after the first journey of the apostle to Macedonia, about the year 52. The text argues that it is not possible the book of Acts was written earlier than the year 71 or 72. The text says there is, indeed, a singular contradiction between the last chapter of the Gospel and the first chapter of the Acts.
A chapter headed Establishment of the Church of Antioch says that the new faith was propagated from one neighborhood to another with astonishing rapidity. The text calls Antioch "the metropolis of the East" and the third city of the world, and says it was a city with a population of more than 500,000 souls.
