About this book
Recollections of My Youth is by Ernest Renan, and its contents list names, among others, The Flax-Crusher, My Uncle Pierre, Little Noémi and The Issy Seminary. The preface calls the legend of an imaginary town called Is, which is supposed to have been swallowed up by the sea at some unknown time, one of the most popular legends in Brittany. Part I of The Flax-Crusher speaks of Tréguier as "my native place", grown into a town out of an ancient monastery founded at the close of the fifth century by St. Tudwal (or Tual).
The text says that change is a thing unknown at St. Sulpice, and that the seminary has no professors, all the members of the congregation having the uniform title of director. The text mentions a humble post in the preparatory school annexed to the Stanislas College.
