The Argonauts by Eliza Orzeszkowa carries an introduction that calls the authoress of The Argonauts the greatest female writer and thinker in the Slav world at present. The character Darvid is shown cutting a page out of a thick, long book and, giving it to Kranitski, saying "Here is a bank check for a considerable sum."
One speech in the book holds that "In Europe, England is the country most favorable for commercial operations of this kind, but the richest field is America." The baron is described as becoming animated while explaining his idea and the plan of operations that had come to his head long before. The text asks whether a character felt a quiver of sorrow for that past which had left him forever, and for that daughter who went out with the word vileness hanging on her lips.
