About this book
The Art of Lawn Tennis is a book by William T. Tilden. The introduction says, "Tennis is at once an art and a science." The writer of the introduction says, "I began tennis wrong. My strokes were wrong and my viewpoint clouded."
The writer believes in an order of development, among whose steps are "Concentration on the game," "Keep the eye on the ball" and "Foot-work and weight-control." A passage on courts says that grass is "far easier on the eyes and feet of the players than any other surface," and that "The expense of upkeep is very great." A passage on a championship says that Mrs. Mallory was "the woman of the hour" and "successfully defended her title by virtue of victories over Mrs. May Sutton Bundy in the semi-final and Miss Mary Browne in the final."
