About this book
Division of Words is by Frederick W. Hamilton. The text mentions the Greek custom of dividing always after a vowel and even dividing words of one syllable. The text says the rules for division are necessarily based on spelling and syllabication.
One rule says to divide on a vowel wherever practicable, and that a vowel which alone forms a syllable in the middle of a word should be run into the first line. Another rule says that when three consonants come together between two vowels, the first of which is short, the division comes after the first consonant. A list of titles, among others, gives Topical Index by F.W. Hamilton as a book of reference covering the topics treated in the Typographic Technical Series, alphabetically.
