About this book
The Automobile Owner's Guide is by Frank B. Scholl. The preface says the automobile has taken its place as one of the most successful and useful inventions of the day, and that the production by manufacturers is so great that very little thought is given to proper care. Instructions on starting say to open throttle about one-quarter way, retard the spark, pull out radiator choke wire which will close shutter and crank the motor. Chapter IX, headed Kerosene Carburetors, says kerosene can be used only with an application of heat to the manifold to aid in the evaporation of the heavier parts of this fuel.
The description of Fig. 144 says a double thrust bearing was designed to take end thrust in both directions and is also automatically self-aligning. A section headed Lubrication Systems, Oils, and Greases says special attention should be given to regular lubrication, as this, more than any one thing, determines the life and the economic up-keep of the car.
