About this book
The Battaile of Agincourt, by Michael Drayton, is called the poem now reprinted, and the introduction says it appeared with others in 1627. The introduction says that the “Polyolbion” was completed by 1619, though the concluding part was not published until 1623. The introduction says the “Battaile” shows no decay in poetical power, though we must agree with Mr. Bullen that it is in some parts fatiguing.
The verse includes a part headed “The Marshalling of the French Army, containing three stanzas”, which names the Constable, and Admirall of France, with the grand Marshall, men of great command. A note on the lines about pointing stakes to guard the Bow-men says Henry had ordered the archers to provide themselves with stakes even before the passage of the Somme.
