About this book
The Beggar Man is by Ruby M. Ayres, and its contents list runs from "Chapter I" to "Chapter XIII." A girl is described who "was small and slight, with timid, brown eyes and soft, fair hair," and the other girls at the factory "marked her down as being a little different from themselves." A character named Faith says "I think you must be the happiest man in the world," and a man answers that "there is no man in the world so poor as I am."
Faith speaks of "Two little sisters" who are "twins, just turned six." Faith says "I’d rather have starved," and the reply, from Peg, is "You’ve never tried starving." Mr. Shawyer, who "hated the task that had been entrusted to him," says "Your husband asked me to see you."
