The Blackboard Clock is by Eva Aldrich and is a Device Desk Book for the primary teacher, for teaching pupils in First Year and Kindergarten Grades how to tell the time of day by the clock. The text says to draw a circle, about a foot in diameter, on the blackboard, and to place a dot in the center. On a wooden blackboard, the text suggests slips cut from tin for the hour and minute hands, fastened to the center of the face with a slender screw.
The section called Teach the Pupils How to Tell the Time says to teach the pupils to count to sixty, and that sixty minutes make an hour. The text tells the teacher to show pupils that the minute hand gets home twelve times as often as the hour hand. The text says one of the main objects of time drill in the schoolroom is to aid in effecting order. A list of holidays gives, among others, Newyear’s Day, January 1, St. Valentine’s day, February 14, and Independence Day, July 4.
