About this book
Mrs. Lang is the author named for The Book of Princes and Princesses. The text says Henry spent many of the hours that hung heavily on his hands in studying Latin, and most likely in reading some of the old romances of Arthur and his knights, which have their root in Brittany. The duke is said to have perceived that his captives were too valuable to be lightly parted with, and declined to accept Edward's proposals.
Prince Edward was a delicate child, the text says, and most likely for that reason was sent down by his father to live at Hatfield House, with Elizabeth to keep him company. A woman wakes the little princess and dresses her in a set of boy's garments as dirty and ragged as her own. The woman says, Now you are my little boy Pierre, but Henriette cries and declares she is not Pierre but a princess.
