About this book
The Books of the Apocrypha concerns the origin, teaching and contents of the books named in its title. A chapter takes up Hellenistic influence upon the Jews of Palestine, treating that influence as a subject for historical discussion. The historical account describes many Jews emigrating from Persia to the west and settling in centres of Greek civilization when Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire.
The discussion of textual evidence distinguishes the fourth-century uncial manuscripts used for the Revised Version from the much later cursive manuscripts used for the Authorized Version. The account says the Authorized Version has support from early patristic authority and from the Old Latin Version, which contains many really ancient elements.
