This bittersweet tragicomedy centers on an odd triangle of characters Basil Ransom, a political traditional from Mississippi; Olive Chancellor, Ransom’s cousin, and a Boston feminist; and Verena Tarrant, a pretty, young protégée of Olive’s in the feminist movement.
