About this book
The Boy Allies at Jutland, with the subtitle Or, The Greatest Naval Battle of History, is by Clair W. Hayes. The first chapter is headed H.M.S. Queen Mary and opens with a great, long, gray shape moving swiftly through the waters of the Thames. The text calls the great gray shape an ocean greyhound, one of Great Britain's monster sea-fighters, that had up-anchored and left her dock.
The text says German battleships, cruisers and submarines had on several occasions ventured from behind the mine field and delivered raids upon the British coast, almost 400 miles away. The text says the fact that the British were able to keep the German fleet bottled up was a victory in itself, though a bloodless one. The relief promised by Vice-Admiral Beatty is described as gathered from various parts of the North Sea and steaming toward Jutland. Harris puts a card back in his pocket, thinks better of it, draws it out again and sends it spinning off across the sea, saying quietly that there goes all evidence that he cheated.
