About this book

The Boy Crusaders, A Story of the Days of Louis IX, is by John G. Edgar. The preface says that among the expeditions undertaken with the view of rescuing the Holy Sepulchre from the Saracens, hardly one is so interesting as that which had Louis IX. for its chief and Joinville for its chronicler.

The preface says the author has related the adventures of two striplings. Walter says something with a calm smile about fortune, and Guy exclaims that fortune ever favours the brave. Walter says he should refrain from boasting, for we are admonished to be dumb as to our own deeds, and eloquent in praise of others. The walls and roof of the great hall are decorated with paintings of the battle of Hastings, the siege of Jerusalem by the Crusaders under Godfrey of Bouillon and Robert Curthose, and the signing of the Great Charter by King John.
