Boy Life of Napoleon, Afterwards Emperor of the French is adapted and extended for American boys and girls from the French of Madame Eugénie Foa. The preface says the name of Madame Eugenie Foa has been a familiar one in French homes for more than a generation.
Eliza says that even though Papa Charles is a count, he is not rich enough to send the children all to school, so their uncle, the Canon Lucien, teaches them many lessons. Chapter Twelve, headed The Great Snow-ball Fight at Brienne School, says that the Snow-ball Fight is now famous and was in the winter of 1783. A speaker in the text says that my little captain, my Bonaparte of Brienne, dashed at the gun and loaded it and was not killed, and that there he met two other tough ones like himself, Duroc and Junot.
