About this book
A boy called the brat bolts from a farmhouse ahead of a farmer's boot, then hides in the shadows beneath the raised building. A woman's voice says he is just a boy who was lost and hungry. Lying in the warm grass, he smells food, chews a handful of grass, and says hello to a grasshopper, which says hello back.
In another scene he finds a gray boy with two antennae growing from his forehead, beside a stream in a tunnel, and drops water over his face. Elsewhere the story brings in Ward Remington, Protector First Class, and a man named Turesco; a teaser says Turesco hates mutants. The text was transcribed from Imaginative Tales, September 1955.
