About this book
The Captain of the Janizaries is by James M. Ludlow and calls itself a story of the times of Scanderbeg and the fall of Constantinople. The text describes a little lover who has built for himself a booth against the steep rocks, and Morsinia who would enter it with bread and water. The text places a scene in the winter of 1443, when the Pass of Slatiza echoed other sounds than the cry of the eagle, the bleating of the flocks, and the songs and halloos of the mountaineers.
The text shows Scanderbeg holding Morsinia by both hands and looking down into her eyes. A speaker says that a Venetian galley touches weekly at Durazzo, and sails through the Corinthian gulf. The text says that, though danger was past, a sense of humiliation and chagrin was shared by officers and men, as they realized that their defeat was due to their own folly more than to the strength of their foe.
