About this book
The collection presents memoirs and anecdotes of notorious characters who have broken the laws of Great Britain, with a declared scope extending from the earliest period to 1841. The listed subjects include coiners, extortioners, forgers, fraudulent bankrupts, highwaymen, impostors, pirates and pickpockets. The account of Charles Hussey records his admission of his name and the discovery, during a search, of a watch and a pocket-book containing a ring.
A prisoner denies knowledge of the deaths and robbery while admitting that the articles found belonged to him. The account of police intervention describes a woman being taken back to prison after recognition in a liquor-shop exposed her to the threat of mob violence.
