About this book
T. C. Turberville's Worcestershire in the Nineteenth Century is a complete digest of facts occurring in the county since the commencement of the year 1800. The advertisement says the aim of the volume is utility, although the word must be interpreted in a very limited sense. The advertisement says that beyond a circuit of a few miles the volume will have no interest.
The text says the salt manufacture of Droitwich is one of the most ancient businesses in the kingdom, having been carried on for upwards of 1,000 years. The text says that from the year 1805 until 1823 salt was subject to a duty of 15s. a bushel or £30 a ton, and in 1825 the duty was removed altogether. In the list of the county aristocracy, the entry for Beauchamp, Earl gives the seat as Madresfield Court.
