About this book
The City of Delight by Elizabeth Miller carries the subtitle "A Love Drama of the Siege and Fall of Jerusalem". The contents list, among others, chapters called A Prince's Bride, On the Road to Jerusalem, The Shepherd of Pella and The Road to Pella. One passage says a man could see the port to the east packed with lifeless vessels.
In one scene Costobarus looks away toward large stones in gutters and on grass-plots, remnants of the work of the Roman catapults the previous summer. In another scene a pretender sighs, "He was a parasite, living off my bounty." One passage describes the Romans, who planted scaling ladders and were pitched backward into the moat regularly; the ladders were set up again after struggle.
