About this book
The History of Margaret Catchpole, a Suffolk Girl is by Richard Cobbold. A note at the front says Margaret Catchpole was first published in 1845. The introduction says three personalities interest us in reading the novel of Margaret Catchpole: the author, the heroine, and the author’s mother.
The text says Margaret did not pause, but dashed down from the verge of the hill into the very thickest part of the back hamlet of St. Clement’s. The text says it was market-day, and scores of pig-carts, carriers’ vans and waggons stood on one side of the road, taking up nearly half the street. A speaker tells Margaret that, though sincerely regarding her, the speaker must make her sensible of the danger she incurs by listening to the artful tales of these men. A speaker in the text says the case is a very proper one for merciful consideration and that the speaker shall certainly grant a free pardon.
