The Coming of Cassidy, And the Others is by Clarence Edward Mulford. The preface says that on one of the writer's annual visits to the ranch, Red, whose welcome always seemed a little warmer than that of the others, took the writer back to the beginning. A character named Bill is described in his Berserker rage, having forgotten about the gun.
A speaker's story says that Lanky, watching his chance as soon as the snow fell heavy enough to cover his movements, slipped out of the house. A speaker says Skinny thought more of Lanky any time than of himself. A character named Johnny is the youthful nuisance who had been evincing undue interest in early suppers for nearly a month. Cookie strangles the biscuit in his hand, but smiles blandly at his tormentor.
