About this book
Winston of the Prairie is by Harold Bindloss and was illustrated by V. Herbert Dunton. The contents list chapters that include Rancher Winston, Lance Courthorne and Trooper Shannon's Quarrel, among others. A knocking at the door is called most unusual, and Winston only quietly moves his head when a man wrapped in furs stands in the opening.
Courthorne is asked where he has come from, and the answer is the long trail, with the Dakotas, Colorado and Montana named. Ferris is described as suggesting that someone had been mixed up in something not very creditable at the settlement lately, and Maud Barrington is said to have overheard him and made him retract before the company. Courthorne is shown speaking, his voice sinking almost beyond hearing: 'Sergeant, remember, Winston fancied I was dead.'
