The Conspirators, also known as The Chevalier d’Harmental, is a historical adventure by Alexandre Dumas and his collaborator Auguste Maquet, first published in 1843. It is set in Paris in 1718, during the Regency that followed the death of Louis XIV, when France was ruled in the young king’s name by the Duke of Orléans. A brave and impulsive young officer, the Chevalier d’Harmental, is drawn into a real plot by nobles to seize power, and his loyalty to the conspiracy soon collides with his love for the mysterious young woman who lodges next door.
