About this book
The Criminal, by Havelock Ellis, is divided into chapters that include The Study of the Criminal, Criminal Anthropology (Physical) and Criminal Anthropology (Psychical). The physical anthropology chapter lists sections such as Cranial and Cerebral Characteristics and Anomalies of the Hair, and the psychical chapter lists Moral Insensibility.
One case described is a man who began to write essays and criticisms under the name of Janus Weathercock, and who forged a power of attorney with the names of his trustees, assigning to himself the principal of £5000. The text says this was then a capital offence and that it remained undetected for twelve years. The text also says a few words may be added concerning criminal art as shown in design, and that Lombroso reproduces numerous drawings made in prison, generally very rough and slight.
