About this book
The Cruise of the Kawa is subtitled Wanderings in the South Seas. The narrator says Captain Ezra Triplett asked “Is she tight?” while they were speaking of the narrator's yawl, the Kawa. The narrator says the papers were signed forthwith in the parlor of Hop Long's Pearl-of-the-Orient Cafeteria, and that dawn of the following day saw the party beyond the Golden Gate. The narrator describes a corner formed by the intersection of the equator with the 180th meridian, and says more explorers pass a given point in a given time at this corner than at any other on the globe.
The narrator says Triplett finally pulled out his Colt and, being a dead shot, drilled the undershirt through the second button. The narrator says William Henry Thomas yelled “Is that so?” and proceeded to step jauntily over the rail and walk in the direction of the party. Swank agrees, saying “I suppose we ought to be thankful,” and says that no matter what art-juries of the future may do to him, his pictures were a success in the Filberts.
