About this book
The Curse of Koshiu, subtitled A Chronicle of Old Japan, is by Lewis Wingfield. The contents list names chapters titled, among others, Boy and Girl, The Last Hojo, Married Life, and The Abbess gives Advice. The text says that at stated seasons a bevy of priestesses, emerging from strict retirement, performs the kagura, a slow swanlike measure with many and intricate figures and waving of fans and bells and kerchiefs.
The text shows Koshiu turning to his wife as both were bound to their crosses, and gaily laughing, "Cheer thee, dear Kennui!" The text says Sampei declared with quiet gravity that he would not desert his brother.
