About this book
The study connects more fertile regions with the larger, more stable and permanent aggregations in which tribes living in those regions gather. The author disagrees with Prof. Frazer's views on group marriage and does not agree with all his conclusions about prehistoric times, while valuing his collection and exposition of facts. The discussion of food gathering describes women searching for roots and grubs and argues that collecting work is never done well in big bands.
The author considers it probable that a woman alone would fear remote wanderings. The proposed most favourable collecting unit is a group of two to three women with their children. The account describes men hunting in rather small groups and says there do not seem to be any collective hunting methods. The author suggests that several men perhaps tired out the kangaroo through their common effort.
