About this book

Henry James wrote a short story titled "The Figure in the Carpet," which debuted in 1896. The narrative is narrated from the viewpoint of an unidentified narrator who develops an obsession with learning the hidden meaning or purpose of every book written by Hugh Vereker, his favorite author. The narrator attempts to decode the concealed “figure” in Vereker’s works but is unsuccessful. The narrative explores topics of interpretation, the bond between a writer and his creations, and the extent one will go to understand art.
