About this book
The Flame is a book by Gabriele D'Annunzio. An orator, whose voice is described as clear and penetrating, speaks of Autumn and Venice, saying that this pure city of Art aspires to a supreme state of beauty which for her returns annually, as the flowers return to the forest. The text says Æschylus composed more than a hundred tragedies, Sophocles still more.
The text says the artist recognized in her the Dionysian creature, the living material, apt for receiving the rhythms of art, to be modeled according to poetic forms. A character says that, when he calls someone Perdita, he fancies that the one addressed can see his desire approaching.
