About this book

The Foreigner, subtitled A Tale of Saskatchewan, is a book by Ralph Connor. The preface says that in Western Canada there is to be seen to-day that most fascinating of all human phenomena, the making of a nation. The contents list names chapters, among others The City on the Plain, Where East Meets West and The Marriage of Anka.

Mrs. Fitzpatrick, despairing of success in her efforts with Paulina, calls in the aid of Anka Kusmuk, and together they labour with Paulina with little effect. A letter signed by a loving sister, Margaret, asks Jack to do for Kalman all he can and to remember that he is just a boy. Kalman reads papers by the light of a lantern while French smokes calmly, and French asks Rosenblatt whether he has no better light than this.
