About this book
The Fortune Hunter is a book by David Graham Phillips, whose title page names The Deluge, The Social Secretary and The Plum Tree among his other books. The contents list names chapters, among others Enter Mr. Feurstein, Brass Outshines Gold and Fortune Favors the Impudent.
A chapter headed Enter Mr. Feuerstein has Feuerstein leave his boarding-house in East Sixteenth Street on an afternoon late in April and calls him a romantic figure of the German Theater stock company. The text says that in Mr. Feuerstein a woman had found what she had been unconsciously seeking with the Idealismus of genuine youth. Travis tells Mr. Ganser that he almost forgot for the moment that he is representing Mr. Feuerstein. A policeman on the seat beside the driver shouts "Cork up in there!", and the old woman becomes abruptly silent.
