About this book

The Ghost in the White House gives some suggestions as to how a hundred million people, who are supposed in a vague, helpless way to haunt the White House, can make themselves felt with a President. The title page goes on to say how they can back him up, express themselves to him, be expressed by him, and get what they want.

The contents list Book I as What the People Expect of the People, with headings such as The Lonesomest Job on Earth and The President and the Ghost. The writer says that the man to whom the hundred million people are giving for the next four years the job of being their Head Employee has an Employer so large, so various, so amorphous, so mixed together and so scattered apart that he could never hope in a thousand years to get in touch with It. A heading reads Living Down Cellar in One's Own Mind.
