About this book

The Giant Sequoia is an account of the history and characteristics of the big trees of California, by Rodney Sydes Ellsworth. The preface says the imposing calm which the great Sequoia of the Sierra Nevada exerts over many came to be individually impressed upon the author during a summer's residence in the Mariposa Grove two years ago. The book is offered with twelve full-page illustrations.

The text says that when winter comes and all is in keeping with the great sleep of the forest, it is blossom time for the Sequoia. The text says Galen Clark came upon the Mariposa Grove in May of 1857. The text says the mammoth trees of Calaveras had so astounded the world subsequent to their discovery in 1852. The text says that if a tree were hollowed out into a round room with a row of seats cut out of the solid heart wood, a round table could be set in the center and fourteen guests could be seated about it with uncrowded ease.
