About this book
The Plants of Michigan offers simple keys for identifying the native seed plants of the state. The preface says the book does not attempt to convey botanical information, but offers an opportunity to learn the names of plants. The preface makes observation a condition of identification: only those interested enough to observe a plant can find its name using the book.
The keys distinguish willows by slender leaves and brittle twigs, and cottonwoods by broad, heart-shaped or rounded leaves. The clover entries distinguish densely flowered heads with a striate upper petal when dry from loosely flowered heads whose upper petal is scarcely striate or not striate at all.
