About this book
Lost in a vast forest, Eric, the son of King Magnus, searches for the gold thread that should guide him. As evening approaches, he encounters a rough swineherd who demands the gold band his father gave him. The boy's need for shelter brings him into immediate danger, while the wooded valleys, gathering storm and distant cries of birds make his fear tangible.
Norman Macleod wrote this children's story to teach trust in God and the importance of doing what is right. The thread gives that lesson a visible shape: Eric must keep hold of it when steep rocks, rushing water and a lion's den make the path ahead seem frightening. First written for the author's own children, the tale combines woodland adventure with direct moral teaching. Readers interested in stories about courage and conscience will find both expressed through a young boy's difficult choices.
