The Three Comrades

Two boys and a dog find companionship beside a shepherd's hut in the mountain clearings of Lord Gemer's estate. Petrik has lost both parents, while Ondrejko, the lord's son, arrives on a doctor's advice to recover his strength. Their friend Fido guards the ladder when they sleep together in the hay. Watching over them is Bacha Filina, a stern shepherd whose evening conversations give the children room to share their worries.

Kristína Royová's Christian novel connects this rural household with questions of family responsibility, kindness and faith. Bible readings lead to lessons about helping others and caring for animals, while Filina's concern reaches beyond the boys' daily meals and health to their need for affection. Sheep bells, woodland walks and simple suppers give the story a concrete setting. Readers interested in religious fiction about childhood will find moral teaching expressed through close relationships and everyday care.
