About this book
The Golden Wheel Dream-book and Fortune-teller by Felix Fontaine is a handbook of popular divination. Its contents list sections on what dreams are, finding lucky numbers with dice, fortune telling with cards, fortunes by dominoes and dice, palmistry, phrenology and physiognomy, lucky and unlucky days, the divining rod, judgements drawn from the moon's age, and the language of flowers. A transcriber's note says that the section titled A List of Dreams has cross references to entries that are not present.
The text on dreams cites the proverb that all dreams are lies, quotes Hippocrates on the soul being awake while the body sleeps, and names five kinds of dream: dream, vision, oracle, revery and apparition. A card-telling passage explains how picture cards are turned by cards of the same suit and says that the one of the four kings who first resumes an upright position is to be the happy husband.
