About this book
Fortunes and Dreams, by Astra Cielo, is a manual of fortune telling, divination and the interpretation of dreams, signs and omens. The text calls astrology the science of the stars and their influence on the lives and destinies of human beings, and a very old and honorable subject. The text adds that astrology continued to be popular until the sixteenth century.
The book includes sayings in verse, among them one about a swarm of bees in July not being worth a fly and rules for riding that begin with keeping up your head and your heart. A set of numbered answers includes one that promises it will bring many friends to you and one that says not to trust him, unless you feel sure that he can be trusted. The text on stones says the hyacinth was also a cure for dropsy, and describes a stone of ancient repute which would turn white if enveloped in a linen cloth.
