About this book
The Grafters is a book by Francis Lynde. The contents list includes, among others, the titles Ashes of Empire, A Man of the People and The Bostonians. The Brentwoods were not rich, as riches are measured in millions, but they lived in their own house in the Back Bay wilderness.
Apart from his modest patrimony, Kent had only his profession. Kent speaks, saying he is honestly sorry for Grantham, and for any one that has to stay in this charnel-house of a town ten minutes after he's through. A speaker asks what would happen to the man who would let the Universal Oil Company into the Belmount field in defiance of the new trust and corporation law. Halkett steps into the car, pulls the cord of the automatic air, and mutters that the Irishman bled the tank before he started.
