About this book

The Green Bay Tree is a novel by Louis Bromfield. Lily and the Governor appear together, with the Governor following her at a little distance as though they had been quarreling. When Irene moves toward the door, her mother checks her escape and says she will forbid her to go to mass if the behavior does not stop. Lily is described as taller than her sister and two years older.

A character named Willie insists that it has all worked out as if they had planned it on purpose, and that it is the second time they have cost the Mills thousands of dollars. The book describes an explosion in which forty-seven blackened bodies were carried out under white sheets.
