The title page of The Hawaiian Islands reads Their Resources Agricultural, Commercial and Financial, and the book is credited to Hawaii. Department of Foreign Affairs. The contents list chapters from CHAPTER I to CHAPTER VIII, followed by an OFFICIAL DIRECTORY. The list of illustrations names, among others, Sanford B. Dole, President of the Republic of Hawaii.
A section headed MAUI says Maui is also a very fine Island, with sugar plantations and numerous coffee lands, especially in the eastern part, which are just now being opened up. A section headed HONOLULU says that on Oahu is the capital, Honolulu, a city numbering thirty thousand inhabitants and pleasantly situated on the south side of the Island. A heading on conditions of right of purchase lease gives a term of twenty-one years and a rental of eight per cent. on the appraised value given in lease, payable semi-annually.
